Why this bottle belongs on the list
Two selling points.
Then the market.
Coast fruit. Estate discipline.
In 2012 Don Ross walked Buena Tierra with Brown, who pointed at a Swan clone Pinot block and said he could make something. The current 2023 is the small-production red in the book: 110 cases, medium-to-deep ruby, forest floor already in the glass.
96 LPB. Not a simple red-fruit Pinot.
Lisa Perrotti-Brown, March 2026: wild sage, mossy tree bark, tilled soil, velvety and opulent mid-palate, just enough freshness, fragrant-earth finish. Drink 2026–2040. Pair with wild mushrooms.

Rivers Brown
Brown's gift, in Joann's words, is wines that are the purest expression of the site with minimal intervention. The 2023 Pinot is that idea on the coast: black fruit, dried herbs, earth, velvet.
Shibumi is still the knoll north of St. Helena — a cottage, an oak, a sub-acre of Cabernet — and a Russian River / Sonoma Coast fruit book that Don and Joann refused to let get ripped out.
110 cases is the entire 2023 Pinot. When the sixes are gone, the vintage is finished for the channel.
Sonoma Coast
Black fruit.
Dried herbs.
Earth in the bass line.
This is not a simple red-fruit Pinot. The published aromatic set is blackberry, mulberry, sage, moss, and soil — a coast wine with forest floor already in the glass.
LPB marks it ready to drink, medium-plus body, moderate acidity, subtle oak, medium tannin. 14.2% alcohol.
Organic farming, hand harvest, cluster sorted. The pairing on the sheet is wild mushrooms. Duck is the second plate.
